  Students og Politics and International Reltions at Model OSCE Conference | 26/09/2008
On July 4-7 2008 Students from the University of Georgia participated in Model OSCE conference together with different delegations of European states. Model OSCE was held in Vienna, Austria for the first time in history. Participants from 30 member states represented states different from their origin countries. Georgian delegation successfully represented Spain and Georgia was represented by Ireland. Georgian delegation was represented by students of School of Politics and International Relations, Salome Alania, Nino Khelaia and Saba Gvetadze. Delegation members included the Dean of School of Politics and International Relations of the University of Georgia, Kornely K. Kakachia and the staff member of OSCE mission to Georgia, Mrs.Alla Babunashvili.

  UG Student at the 22nd DEMYC CONGRESS | 19/04/2008
The School of Politics and International Relations is glad to inform that the MA student of international relations program, Ana Akhalaia participated in 22nd DEMYC CONGRESS on 3-6 APRIL 2008, which was held in Athens, Greece. At the congress Ana represented Conservative Union of Georgian Youth –CUGY. She had an opportunity along with other delegates to meet Mrs Dora Bakogianni, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece and Mr. Evaggelos Meimarakis, Minister of Defence.

  Ronald Mangum at University of Georgia | 15/04/2008
On April 9, the visitor of the University of Georgia was General Ronald Mangum. The topic of the lecture was Bucharest Summit and prospects for Georgia. The guest speaker discussed NATO, issues the organization is facing currently, NATO’s role and relevance in today’s world, the progress Georgia has achieved in the military sphere but General Mangum emphasized that much more is to be done in judiciary, elections and in relation with Russia. The latter being a sensitive issue which does not need emotional and radical reactions from the Georgian side.

  David J. Smith at the University of Georgia | 27/03/2008
Today, March 26, guests of the University of Georgia to meet the students of the School of Politics and International Relations were Ambassador David J. Smith, Director of Georgian Security Analysis Center and Dr. Scott Parrish, Second Secretary, United States Embassy. The lecture delivered by the guest speakers, concerned elections in the United States. They thoroughly discussed American electoral system, its development to the present-day system, gradual involvement of people in the process and electoral campaigns of the candidates.

  The Initiative of New Cooperation at University of Georgia | 15/03/2008
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the University of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ceremony was held at the University of Georgia on March 11th, 12.00. The Memorandum was signed by Rector of the University of Georgia – Dr. Manana Sanadze and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - Nikoloz Vashakidz. The signing ceremony was attended by official representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Georgia.

  EU Representative in The University of Georgia | 01/03/2008
Today, February 27, the students of the Scool of Politics and International Relations had an opportunity to meet Special Representative of Council of Europe in Georgia Mr. Igor Goan. In a very interesting speech Mr.Goan briefly covered the conditions for the creation of Council of Europe, mission the organization was going to fulfill, the events of 1994 and 1999 when Georgia was first considered as a candidate state based on its cultural roots recognized as being European and the year when it entered the organization, difficulties Georgia was having regarding unfulfilled tasks in the years of the former government, positive changes following Rose Revolution and restored image of the country.

  Alexandre Rondeli at the University of Georgia | 09/02/2008
Today, February 6, the visitor of the University of Georgia was President of Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies Dr. Alexandre Rondeli. Main issues the guest discussed were Geogia as a small state, Russian foreign policy towards Georgia, and the country’s prospects in terms of integration in the Euro-Atlantic institutions. The guest put emphasis on the importance of Georgia’s foreign political priorities, the need for democratic development as the guarantor of future prosperity for Georgia as a state and a nation and presence of elite in the country. He pointed that a strategic mistake can have serious consequences for a small country.

  Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia at University of Georgia | 02/02/2008
School of Politics and International Relations with the beginning of the new semester resumed the tradition of inviting interesting guests. This time, January 30 the visitor at the University of Georgia was Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Mr. Nikoloz Vashakidze. The Guest made a brief overview of the Ministry structure and touched upon the issues such asGeorgia-Russian relations, need for result oriented settlement of the conflicts, Georgia’s role in stability maintenance in the region, the country’s relations, as a GUAM member-state, with neighboring Azerbaijan and Armenia and of course, the issue of relations with Western Europe, namely the EU.

  “Megobabari” – A Present for the Students | 31/01/2008
On January 29th, 2008, a joint project “Megobabari for the Students” was carried out on the initiative of the University of Georgia, the Center of Social Affairs and Basisbank. Within the frames of the project, the Master’s program students of the University of Georgia were presented with the Basisbank Megobarati credit cards, with the deposit of 500 GEL on the account.
