  Ph.D. Programs
 
BACKGROUND
In May 2005, Georgia joined the 45-member Bologna Process, the aim of which is to create the European higher education area by harmonizing academic degree standards and quality assurance standards throughout Europe. As part of its plan of action, the Ministry of Education and Science has committed that Georgian universities will start new doctoral programs in 2006-2007. Consistent with that commitment, University of Georgia (UG) is in the process of developing new doctoral programs in the areas of its expertise.
 
FACTS
1.  UG doctoral programs include—
 Doctor of Philosophy:
• Ph.D. in Social Sciences with specializations in—
• Anthropology
• Comparative Literature
• Criminology
• Economics
• Education
• History
• International Relations
• Political Science
• Public Policy
• Regional Studies
• Social Ecology and Public Health, and
• Individually designed programs

 Doctor of Education:
• Ed.D. in Education Management
 Doctor of Business Administration:
• D.B.A. in Management
 Juris Doctor (Doctor of Laws)
• J.D. in International Law
 
2.   Programs are designed to meet needs for scholars (Ph.D.) and practitioners (Ed.D., D.B.A., J.D.)
 
3.   Doctoral candidates may study full-time or part-time.
 
4.   Time to complete the degree is expected to range from 3-5 years. Candidate may work during this time.
 
5.   Each candidate will have a dedicated academic advisor. Computers and Internet access are available.
 
6.   Fees for the program will be determined to be affordable yet cover program expenses.
 
7.   We envision one or more semesters of study abroad.
 
8.   Admission requirements include master’s degree, advanced English, and GRE or similar test.
 
9.   UG programs will comply with the letter and spirit of Georgian law and the Bologna Process.
 
10.  UG is developing a relationship with EU’s project, “Development of e-Societies in South Caucasus.”
